A new theatre company in Chewton will be performing some superb dramas, mysteries and comedies at the Chewton Senior Citizens Centre from next month (June, 2013).
The company is called the Cathouse Players Inc and it has a wonderful reputation spanning more than 30 years in Melbourne’s northern suburbs.
Under the artistic direction of Bette Sartore, Cathouse Players has won stacks of awards over the years with its high quality productions.
The company folded a few years back but the good news for theatre lovers is that Bette has moved to central Victoria and fallen in love with Chewton Senior Citizens Centre.
“I knew from the moment I saw it that it was perfect venue for small cast productions,” Bette said. “I can’t wait to present a show there.”
Bette soon assembled a very talented, experienced ensemble and reformed the Cathouse Players to perform great shows in Chewton.
The company’s first production will be Trap for a Lonely Man by Robert Thomas.
Set in a French chalet in the 1950s, this wonderful drama/mystery has more twists and turns than the long and winding road, and the audience will be left guessing until the very last lines of the play.
“In the tradition of the great classic mystery plays, we are asking audience members not to divulge the ending to their friends because it really is a cracker finale that needs to be enjoyed by everybody.
“We are thrilled to be performing in Chewton and look forward to calling it home for many years to come.”
Cathouse Players will perform Trap for a Lonely Man at Chewton Senior Citizens Centre, Pyrenees Highway, Chewton at 8pm on June 14, 15, 21 and 22. There will also be a special matinee performance on Sunday, June 16 at 2pm and the final night (June 22) will be a Gala Night.
